A BROMSGROVE youngster has received her prestigious gold Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award at a special event.
Georgie Butler, who attended South Bromsgrove High School, travelled to London on September 11, to receive her award from HRH The Earl of Wessex.
During the event Georgie also met celebrity guest Amanda Holder.
The Gold Award Presentation celebrates and recognises the hard work, determination and perseverance required.
Georgie worked tirelessly through the five sections of her DofE programme over 24 months to achieve her award.
Her diverse activities included volunteering at a local Rainbows group, setting up a new company under the Young Enterprise scheme, and learning two new sports - tennis and surfing.
Georgie said: “I have absolutely loved doing all three stages of DofE, especially the gold expedition and the residential section.
“DofE has helped me develop my life skills and has given me a much wider appreciation of things going on in the world.”
The award has also helped Georgie secure a place at Bournemouth University to study forensic science and a part-time job in the kids activity department of David Lloyd leisure clubs.
