Townsfolk urged to get chimneys swept after fires
5:00pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Local
TOWNSFOLK are being urged to get their chimney swept regularly as part of campaign to stamp out chimney fires.
Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) has issued the reminder after Bromsgrove firefighters were called out to two separate chimney fires over the weekend, (October 12 and 13).
HWFRS is also highlighting chimney fire safety as part of this year’s Winter Safety Campaign.
Station commander Alan Hale said: “We always experience a peak in the number of chimney fires we get called to as the weather turns colder and although this seasonal rise is to be expected, we are keen to highlight that many chimney fires can be avoided simply by taking a few simple safety measures.”
A full list of approved sweeps operating locally is available from nacs.org.uk or guildofmasterchimneysweeps.co.uk, while general information on chimney fire safety can be found on the service’s website at hwfire.org.uk.
