ANIMAL lovers are being asked not to forget the unwanted pets in its care this Christmas.

Bromsgrove's Blue Cross Centre, in Catshill, says the abandoned cats, dogs and rabbits will spend Christmas in its care - while pets elsewhere are lavished with presents.

The Wildmoor Lane-based centre is appealing for funds so it can give the animals an extra special treat or toy.

The centre has also launched an Amazon gift list to help get all the pets the goodies they deserve.

The list includes a pet see-saw, to keep dogs exercised and mentally stimulated, and heated beds to keep older and baby pets warm over the winter months.

Neil Edwards, Blue Cross manager, said: “Every year, we care for hundreds of pets in crisis and this Christmas we wanted to give all the animals a little bit extra.

"We hope our supporters will help us with a donation or special gift from the wish list which has items for all budgets.

"Just a few pence will really make a difference to homeless pets at Christmas."

The rehoming centre opened in 1986 and takes in and finds new homes for hundreds of cats and dogs every year.

The centre also has a veterinary clinic, providing care to pet owners who cannot afford private vets fees.

Nationally the Blue Cross opened its first hospital in 1906, and since then it has gone on to open 12 rehoming centres, including the Bromsgrove one, dedicated to providing care for sick and homeless animals.
