A symbol of hope

A CANDLELIT vigil is being organised by the Save the Alex campaign, almost eight years to the day a similar event was held in response to services at the Alexandra Hospital coming under threat.

It takes place tomorrow Thursday, December 12 from 4pm to 7pm on land near the entrance to the hospital site and will be the last opportunity for the public to show their support to retain services at the hospital before concerned residents, campaigners, councillors and MPs find out its fate.

As part of an on-going review NHS chief David Williams says he is confident an agreement will be reached on the future of Worcestershire’s acute hospitals on December 18.

Neal Stote, chairman of Save the Alex, said: “The candlelit vigil will be a symbol of hope, hope that the NHS has listened to the hours of lobbying we have done behind the scenes, to the 600 plus people who wrote to commissioners, the 2,500 people who marched, the 55,000 people who signed the petition and to all who said no to cutting services at the Alex."
