A BLACK Country-themed fund-raising night is being held in Bromsgrove in the new year.

The evening, A Black Country Night, is taking place on Friday, January 24.

It includes the traditional Black Country dish faggots and peas, with a vegetarian alternative available.

Entertainer Alan Smith will be performing as Just Aynuk, one half of legendary Black Country comedy duo Aynuk and Ayli.

Wordsmith David Bartley will also be reading his poetry at the event, being held at the town’s Spadesbourne Suite at the Council House, in Burcot Lane.

Those attending are asked to arrive for 7pm, in time for a 7.30pm start.

The supper will be served at 8.15pm.

There will also be a raffle on the evening, which will draw to a close at around 11pm.

The event is being organised by Bromsgrove District Council's civic head Helen Jones and will be raising money for her chosen charities during her year in office - Afasic, which supports children and young people with speech and language impairments, and the Pilgrim Bandits, which helps and inspires wounded soldiers.

Tickets cost £16 per person on a first-come-first-served basis from Sharon Chaplin, by calling 01527 881484.

Anyone interested is advised to book early, to avoid disappointment.

Party bookings are welcome. Organisers ask people bring their own drinks and glasses as there are no bar facilities available.
