A CHRISTMAS message from Gordon Yarranton, chairman of Worcestreshire County Council

"I should like to take this opportunity to extend warm seasonal greetings to everyone across Worcestershire.

"At this time, thoughts naturally turn towards time spent with family and friends and all that the festive season brings, but we should also take a little time to think of those who are less fortunate, and for whom this time of year will not be so enjoyable.

"My time as chairman has allowed me to witness first-hand the efforts made by people from all walks of life to strengthen and engage with their community and their tireless commitment to improving life for everyone in whatever way they can gives me a sense of pride about our county and, for several people across Worcestershire, their tireless work was recognised with the award of a British Empire Medal.

"I should also like to mention at this time those who will be working over the holiday period and to extend warm wishes and thanks for their sacrifice. It has been another difficult year for our service men and women and my thoughts are with them and their families as they continue to demonstrate remarkable courage and devotion to the service of our country.

"May I close by wishing each and every one of you a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous and healthy new year."
