HOMEOWNERS are being reminded to sweep their chimneys after three separate fires occurred on one day.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has issued the warning for people with a real fire or woodburning stoves to have them swept regularly and to burn only recommended fuel.

Station commander Alan Haley said: “We do tend to see an increase in the number of chimney fires during the winter period but three in one day is concerning and we would like to remind people just what they can do to protect their properties from the risk of a chimney fire.”
