A LOCAL Bromsgrove-based heating installer is staring the new year with a fundraising campaign to raise money for cancer support charities.

Paul Bennett from Redstone Plumbing and Heating in Stoke Heath is donating £25 from every boiler he installs throughout the Spring to Breast Cancer Awareness, after losing his mother to the disease recently. He is hoping people will get on board with his fundraising efforts from February to May.

He said: “I went on a training course recently, and in the back of one of the rep’s cars was a pink boiler casing. I asked him about it and he told me he was going to throw it away, so I said ‘don’t do that’. It’s the breast cancer colours isn’t it, so I thought I could make use of it. My mum died two years ago and I thought I’m going to do something with it.”

Inspired by his pink boiler casing Mr Bennett will be taking £25 from to each of his jobs throughout February, March, April and May, and donating it to charities that help people coping with breast cancer.

He added: “In the strangest way breast cancer research is quite close to my heart. If other people don’t have to go through what we went through because of research into the disease then that would be fantastic.

“I’m thinking I might split the money I raise between breast cancer research charities and Macmillan Cancer Support, because they also helped my mum out a lot when she was ill.”

Mr Bennett is in talks with Worcester Bosch group to help out with the fundraising as part of their work together.

Victoria Billings, a brand manager for the group, works with Mr Bennett.

She said: “Breast Cancer is something so close to many people’s hearts. We’re always looking for ways to show our support and thought this would be a great way to link our business to such a worthy cause.”
