BROMSGROVE residents are being invited to a town service marking Holocaust Memorial Day.

Church leaders, council dignitaries and school pupils are among those who annually attend the Sanders Park service.

This year's event is being held at the memorial plaque in the Kidderminster Road-based park on Monday, January 27.

The theme of the 2014 Holocaust Memorial Day is journeys, looking at how these were often experiences of persecution and terror for people who suffered in the Holocaust under Nazi persecution and in the subsequent genocides.

Bromsgrove District Council's civic head, Councillor Helen Jones, said: "Every year as a community we mark Holocaust Memorial Day to remember the atrocities of the past and help ensure that they are never repeated.

"This year we will be thinking about the journeys people took during the persecutions brought about in the Holocaust and other genocides. I would like to invite everyone to take a step on our journey and join us in Sanders Park on Monday.”

For more detail about the event call Sharon Chaplin on 01527 881484 or email s.chaplin@bromsgrove.gov.uk.

The service is being held from 11.30am and afterwards there will be free refreshments in the bowling green's clubhouse.
