BROMSGROVE'S MP has shown his support for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) by signing a book of commitment.
HMD, being held today, (January 27), marks the anniversary of the liberation, in 1945, of Auschwitz-Birkenau's concentration and extermination camp, which the MP has previously visited with Bromsgrove students.
In the weeks running up to HMD the Holocaust Educational Trust placed the book in the House of Commons, giving MPs the chance to remember the victims of genocides.
In signing the book, the town's MP, Sajid Javid, paid tribute to the extraordinary men and women who, having survived the Holocaust, work to educate young people about what they endured through the Holocaust Educational Trust's Outreach programme.
The theme for this year's HMD is journeys, looking at how these were often experiences of persecution and terror for people who suffered in the Holocaust under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides.
The MP said: "HMD marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and it is an important opportunity to remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocide.
“It is vitally important we both reflect on and learn from the appalling events of the Holocaust.
"By keeping it in our thoughts we are reminded to continue to challenge all forms of bigotry."
