A BROMSGROVE school has held a successful event designed to teach people how to cook.
South Bromsgrove High School, in Charford Road, hosted a Craft Guild of Chefs Family Food Appreciation Workshop, at the end of January.
The event was supported by LACA, the main body for the school food industry.
Children were partnered up with a parent or guardian, and taught by professional chefs how to make a variety of meals.
During the workshops participants also learned about winter seasonal ingredients, including beetroot, Jerusalem artichoke and rhubarb.
The family workshops, being rolled out to schools and academies across the country, are designed to develop a family bond through food knowledge and preparing food.
The aim is also to show the fun that can be had from cooking, preparing food that is time saving, cost effective and nutritionally balanced.
Anne Bull, LACA national chair, said: “There have been several generations of parents who have missed out on cookery education at school and, as a result, their children are not familiar with many foods.
"With the availability of fast food and prepared meals, combined with a sedentary lifestyle, there is a generation at great risk of obesity and health issues.
“We are keen for the workshops to flourish and help to encourage better eating, improve educational attainment and decrease levels of obesity.”
