THE sister of Andrew Brookes, the Bromsgrove man killed in the Hillsborough disaster, has tracked down vital witnesses ahead of the new inquest starting next month.

Mr Brookes was 26 years old when he died at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, held at Hillsborough Stadium in 1989.

The crush resulted in the deaths of 96 people and injuries to 766 others.

A fresh inquest into Mr Brookes' death - and the deaths of the other 96 victims - was ordered last December after the original accidental death verdict were quashed. Last month the Advertiser reported that his sister, Louise Brookes, was attempting to trace key witnesses, and had tweeted pictures of the men who tried to save her brother's life on the day of the tragedy.

She said: "The response was amazing - it went viral.

"We have now found two of the witnesses, who contacted my solicitors, which is great news.

"We also discovered that the picture of a man we thought was a doctor, was actually a fan."

Ms Brookes explained her focus remains on finding the doctor who was with Andrew and attempted to resuscitate him, although her search is hampered as she does not have a picture of him.

Last Wednesday, Ms Brookes attended the fifth and final Hillsborough pre-inquest hearing held in Westminster, London.

Ms Brookes learned the inquest is set to begin on Monday, March 31.

Coroner Lord Justice Goldring will hear all the evidence during the inquests at Birchfield Park, Warrington, which is expected to be completed by December 19.

Ms Brookes said: "I will be attending as much as I can. I want to hear everything about the run up, all the evidence on how it happened, as well as Andrew's individual inquest."

Anyone with information to find the doctor is asked to contact solicitors Birnberg Peirce & Partners on 020 7311 0166, quoting Team Hillsborough Witness Appeal.

The Hillsborough Family Support Group is also appealing for potential witnesses to come forward, before it is too late, to help all the families with unanswered questions.

The group can be contacted by email info@hsfg.co.uk or through the website hsfg.co.uk.
