BROMSGROVE youngsters are joining with hundreds of others for a commemorative concert.

Sing UK, the national, not-for-profit singing organisation, is bringing together more than 600 voices from across the UK and Europe for a concert being held at the Royal Albert Hall in September.

The commemorative concert is part of a number of events marking the outbreak of the First World War.

The youngsters will perform the Armed Man by Karl Jenkins, one of the most performed choral works of modern times.

The pupils from South Bromsgrove High School will be performing with the world acclaimed Philharmonia Orchestra and four international soloists, as well as youngsters from France, Belgium and Germany.

The event includes Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and will be conducted by Sing UK’s artistic director, Malcolm Goldring.

David Whelton, managing director for the orchestra, said: "The Philharmonia Orchestra is delighted to be working in partnership with Sing UK to stage this special event. This occasion will provide a unique and uplifting experience for participants and audiences alike."

South Bromsgrove High School headteacher Paul Topping said: "Fifty students and staff from South Bromsgrove High School are taking part in Sing UK.

"We are already practising weekly and joining collective rehearsals in Worcester with students from six local schools.

"We are excited and honoured to be part of such a significant event."
