GLAUCOMA patients in Worcestershire along with their families and carers are invited to a support group in Worcester next week.

The next meeting of the Worcestershire Glaucoma Support Group led by clinical director for ophthalmology at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Tarun Sharma will be held from 10am until 1pm on Friday, March 7 at the headquarters of Sight Concern in the Bradbury Centre in Sansome Walk.

Mr Sharma will be discussing new surgical options to treat the condition – which affects about 15,000 across the country – as well as answering patient’s questions.

He said: "Receiving a diagnosis for such conditions can instil many worries and concerns in patients and some find it difficult to focus on the questions they need to ask at the time of their consultation in hospital.

“This may lead to problems such as taking their medication incorrectly.

"Previous meetings have proved really successful with good feedback from those who attended.

“The overall aim is to help improve outcomes of glaucoma interventions and improve the quality of life of all glaucoma patients and their relatives."

The free event is supported by Sight Concern and the International Glaucoma Association.
