Students learn lifesaving skills

STUDENTS at a Rednal school won't be phased in a crisis after more than 100 of them took part in St John Ambulance training.
Year 10 students at Colmers School will become qualified young first-aiders following a day-long training course earlier this month in which they learned how to deal with choking, bleeding and scalds as well as the recovery position, joint injuries and fainting.
Teacher Tom Charlett, who organised the training, said: "First aid is a life skill that teaches young people what they need to know in a medical emergency as well as communication and teamwork."
Last year, more than 10,500 young people in the West Midlands were trained through schools.
