BROMSGROVE residents are being invited to get their running shoes on for a charity event being held next month.

Stoke Heath fundraiser and chairman of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research’s Bromsgrove and District Voluntary Branch, Nicole Harris, is encouraging residents to sign up to the branch's fun run being held on Sunday, May 11.

The event will be the 26th annual fun run which has been held since the first was organised a few weeks after Nicole's son, Marc, lost his fight with the disease in 1989.

The event is this year being held at Bromsgrove Rugby Club, in Finstall Road.

For more serious runners there is the 10 kilometre race, while the five kilometre race starts five minutes later.

Nicole said the event had already attracted 125 runners.

Anyone entering on the day will need to do so by 10.30am, but Nicole said the best way to guarantee a slot is to register before May 11.

She said: "Last year's event raised more than £11,000 the most we ever made for this event thanks to the generosity of the Bromsgrove public."

All fundraisers receive a t-shirt on the morning of the event, which will also include many stalls, a barbecue and a massage for the runners before the start.

Townsfolk are advised there is a road closure order in place for Walnut Lane, allowing runners to start the race.
