WOMEN from Bromsgrove took part in a special event held at a town test centre.

Staff at the Kwik Fit centre in Worcester Road organised a Ladies in the Driving Seat evening for women who wanted to learn more about their car and feel more comfortable about visiting a garage.

The event was organised in response to a national survey carried out by the company that revealed nearly two-thirds of female motorists don’t feel comfortable about visiting a garage for repairs, servicing or car checks, while a quarter say that they avoid going to a garage on their own.

Lee Padget, centre manager of Kwik Fit’s Bromsgrove centre, invited women in and around the area to the event on April 9, which also provided tips on basic car maintenance and included a question and answer session.

“The general belief has long been that women are less mechanically minded than men, but our research showed us that many women in and around Bromsgrove want to learn more about their car," he said.

"We want them to feel more confident when they need to go to a garage and that’s why we held the evening.

“The purpose was not to teach everyone how to fit an exhaust or strip a gearbox, but to help people save money by learning some simple car maintenance they can do themselves.

"On top of that, we want to make sure that visiting our centres is as stress free as possible for customers."

More evenings, which are free to take part in, are being organised. For more details email LadiesCarCare@kwik-fit.com.
