PATRIOTIC Rubery residents have been turning their village High Street red and white for St George's Day.

Shopkeepers along the street have been participating in a window dressing competition to mark St George's Day, (April 23).

To honour the patron saint patriotic display were created in shop windows featuring flags, hats and shields.

Beaconside Primary and Holywell Primary schools also got involved by submitting painting and bunting in the theme of St George for a display in village shop windows and at Rubery Library.

In addition to the High Street display a special St George's Day dinner was also organised that included the serving of a traditional menu of roast beef and apple pie, and after dinner cabaret entertainment.

The whole event was organised by the Rubery St George's Society. A society spokesman said: "Our objective, to increase our neighbourhood's awareness of St George this year, has been supported well by various members of the community and plans are already in hand for our 2015 activities."
