YOUNG gardeners from Bromsgrove are preparing to take part in a spring festival this May.

Pupils from Meadows First and Parkside Middle schools are participating in the RHS Malvern Spring Festival being held between May 8 and 11.

The festival is the only one in the UK to have a collection of show gardens designed and built entirely by school children.

The Bromsgrove schools are competing against 18 others, with the challenge to create gardens on the theme of A Great Moment in History.

Sue Verdeyen, education officer for the Three Counties Showground where the the event is being held, said: “At RHS Malvern we are so proud to bring together pupils alongside professionals.

"The School Gardens Challenge is a wonderful way for children to take learning outside of the classroom and truly get their hands dirty.

"We’re really looking forward to seeing the talent on display and no doubt it will be a tough competition.”

Tickets are on sale for the event priced from £14.50 for RHS and TCAS members, £15.50 for non-members, £18 on the gate.
