TWO talented teenagers from Bromsgrove have received prestigious awards for their volunteering efforts in the community.

Keira Greenwood has received a Tryangle Award for outstanding contribution to the community, recognising her volunteering at Sidemoor Youth Club.

The 15-year-old artist is a member of the youth committee and has been designing and introducing brand new arts projects to the club, as well as sharing her arts skills with youngsters.

The volunteer also helped design and make decorations for a Christmas fair that raised more than £150 for the youth club.

The awards, in their ninth year, are run by Worcestershire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (WCVYS).

They were established to celebrate the achievements of young people across the county, turning the spotlights on the successes of young people who have often achieved against the odds.

Keira received her award from Bromsgrove District Council chairman June Griffiths at an awards evening held in Worcester.

Keira described the event as an amazing night, and added she was honoured to receive the award.

Also receiving an award was 18-year-old Ben Hart from Bromsgrove, who was given his accolade for outstanding contribution to the community.

Ben overcame health difficulties to organise a successful sponsored swim that raised £2,500 for the Perthes Association.

He also worked towards his Duke of Edinburgh Gold award and has successfully completed his Queen Scout - the highest youth award achievable in the scouting movement.

Phil Street, manager of WCVYS, said: "The Tryangle Awards are about recognising the achievements of the unsung heroes.

"The young people that show determination to serve their friends, family and community. These are young people that overcome social, health or other challenges to make their mark."
