THE manager of a Bromsgrove company is exasperated that a group of travellers is not being moved along from Buntsford Drive.

Reports were first received about the travellers on April 15 and Dagmar Rathbone, who manages a company next to where they have settled, is angry at the lack of action that is being taken by Bromsgrove District Council or the police.

"I find it horrendous that no one can move them," she said.

"Neither the council or the police can move them on so they know they can stay here for as long as they want. I spoke to one of them and he told me they planned on being here for three months."

Mrs Rathbone explained that the travellers have been littering, using bad language and throwing stones at nearby windows.

"They don't just come with one or two caravans, it's about 20 or 30 of them. I had to listen to a dog that was locked in a car barking for hours and there were children urinating in public. The rubbish they accumulate is horrendous and there are dogs and horses left to run around.

"Since they have discovered that no one can move them on they have become such a nuisance and all the police can do is make sure they keep the peace.

"We are so exasperated with it. I've been here for 10 years and it's the fourth time that it has happened. There are people here who are trying to earn a living who have to put up with this on a daily basis."

Bromsgrove safer neighbourhood inspector Sarah Corteen said police were continuing to monitor the situation at Buntsford Drive and that police had received about a dozen complaints about caravans blocking the road and anti-social behaviour including waste being thrown over fences and youngsters throwing stones at vehicles.

Damage caused to cars outside several dealerships there is also being investigated.

Inspector Corteen said: “Our officers are conducting regular, targeted patrols to provide reassurance to residents and local businesses. We are also talking to the travellers about the issues that have been reported.

“This is private land and we have been in contact with the landowner who ultimately has responsibility for taking any civil proceedings to remove the travellers from the site.

“We will continue to monitor what is happening there and will take action against anyone who is caught causing damage or otherwise breaking the law.”

A spokesman for Bromsgrove District Council added that it is aware of the situation and has checked with the private landowners to make sure something is being done about the situation.
