A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to a major trauma centre after a collision with a car in Bromsgrove this morning, (May 7).

The collision, between a blue Suzuki motorcycle and a black Volkswagen Passat, happened at 7.35am on the A448 Kidderminster Road at the junction with Fockbury Road in Dodford.

Both vehicles had been travelling in the direction of Kidderminster.

A non-emergency patient transport service vehicle came across the incident and a crew provided aid until the arrival of two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer, a doctor, and Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, which carries a specialist trauma doctor.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The rider, a man believed to be in his 40s, was found some distance from the bike.

"He had suffered serious head injuries and as a result the doctor from the air ambulance anaesthetised him at the scene.

“After stabilising his condition, he was airlifted to the centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

"There were three people travelling in the car, a father and two young daughters, thankfully none of them were hurt but were understandably shaken by the crash."

The road was closed in both directions and there was traffic disruption in the area until the road reopened at around 11.30am, following recovery of the vehicles.

PC Michael Haines said: “The rider involved in this has some very serious injuries and therefore an investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened.

"We have spoken to some witnesses already but we urgently need to talk to anyone else who was there and saw what happened or noticed either the bike or the car before the collision.”

PC Haines can be contacted in the Operational Policing Unit at Bromsgrove Police and Fire Centre on non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 82-S-070514.
