A DEMENTIA awareness event is being held in Bromsgrove this May.

The event, organised by the Older People's Sub Group, is being held between 10am and 3pm this Friday, May 23.

It will be promoting the local service available to town residents with dementia, and their carers.

Free advice and information will be available on the day, as well as giving people the opportunity to have their say or get involved and volunteer for local services.

Activities on the day include a pop up Dementia Café, singing for the brain sessions, free health checks and MOTs, '"ready, steady, go" exercises and Tai Chi. Refreshments will also be available.

Ann Sowton, chairman of the group and vice chairman of the Bromsgrove Partnership Board, said: “If you have family, friends or neighbours with dementia or even if you’re suffering with it yourself, please come to our awareness event and find out how we can help you.

“Dementia UK have predicted that by 2030 there will be an increase of 83 per cent in the total Bromsgrove population aged over 65 who have dementia, compared to 2012.

"This statistic is quite scary but by providing more events like this one we can all help the people we love, live well with dementia.”

The event will be taking place at the Methodist Centre, in Stratford Road and coincides with National Dementia Awareness Week.

The Bromsgrove Partnership is made up of representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors who work together to deliver the best possible local services.
