EXCITED youngsters at a Rubery school enjoyed a special visit from a popular children's character.

Peppa Pig dropped in on Holly Hill Infant and Nursery School, in New Street, after the school won a Royal Mail competition.

The Royal Mail Classic Children's television stamps inspired the competition, with the stamps celebrating more than 60 years of classic shows.

Among the favourites honoured on the stamps were Andy Pandy; Mr Benn, Great Uncle Bulgaria, fromThe Wombles; Bagpuss; Paddington Bear; Postman Pat; Bob the Builder and Peppa Pig.

There were 3,000 entries from nurseries and school's across the UK, with winners chosen at random.

Staff at the school kept the visit a secret, and there were whoops of delight as Peppa arrived in the school playground.

The stamps are still available online at royalmail.com/childrenstv.
