STAFF at a Bromsgrove gym are taking part in special challenges to support stroke victims.

The Hilton Hotel, in Birmingham Road, is holding its annual Around the World in a Day fundraising event to raise awareness of stroke.

The event is an annual fundraiser organised by the hotel chain to support the firm's chosen charity of the year.

This year money is being donated to the Stroke Association, which has its national headquarters in Church Lane, Bromsgrove.

The hotel team is taking part in pedometer challenges, a 24 hour gym challenge in LivingWell, a Snowdon climb, a go karting challenge, a 10k road race, 100k bike rides and seven marathons in seven days.

Michael Squire, the hotel’s general manager, said: “Our team is very excited to be working together to support the Stroke Association for ‘Around the World in a Day’. We welcome anyone who would like to come along and join us for amazing fun and exercise.”

Simon Sheehan, director of Hilton in the Community Foundation, said: “We are delighted to have so many events taking place across Europe, which are helping a wide range of causes supporting young people.

“By joining together, we are able to channel our common purpose of supporting youth into having a very local impact. We wish our volunteers in Bromsgrove well for a successful and fun day.”

Since it was founded in 2007, the Around the World in a Day event has raised over £618,000 in support of 317 different children’s charities, schools and good causes.

Claire Benfield, regional fundraiser for the Stroke Association, added: “We are thrilled to be part of the Around the World in a Day event this year.

"The amount of hard work that has gone into the event has been outstanding. We want to wish everyone who is taking part the best of luck.”
