POLICE in Bromsgrove are appealing for witnesses after three burglars disturbed inside a property, and sped away from the house in broad daylight.

The householder was in an upstairs room at the property in Dusthouse Lane, Finstall when the break-in took place, just before 5pm on Tuesday, June 10.

He heard a loud bang as the back door was kicked in, and as he went to investigate the noise, he disturbed an intruder at the top of the stairs.

The burglar who was male and young, immediately fled from the house, jumping into a red Peugeot, which already contained two other males.

The car, which had been parked in a private parking area, sped off from the scene, turning right towards Alcester Road.

The offender who was seen in the house is described as white, aged between 15 and 18, approximately 5’5” tall with a slim build, and he was clean shaven. He was wearing a black top with the hood pulled up over his head, and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The only item stolen from the property was a door key.

Detective Constable Paul Lettis from the burglary team at Redditch CID, said: “It’s obviously quite a shock to realise someone is breaking in while you are at home but it’s obvious from the burglar’s reaction that he didn’t realise the householder was there.

“Our officers have been carrying out door to door inquiries and as this happened in daylight we are hoping someone saw the burglars either parked up outside the property or speeding off after they had been discovered. The smallest detail could be important so if you saw or know anything at all about this then please pick up the phone and talk to us.”

If anyone saw the offenders fleeing the scene, or believes they know who was responsible, they should contact Det Con Lettis at Redditch Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 509-S-100614, Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or give evidence at crimestoppers-uk.org.
