BROMSGROVE School is set to begin teaching GCSE Astronomy after an ex-pupil donated funding to build an observatory.

The Matthew Taylor Observatory is now complete with a dome and two telescopes and will be available from September to GCSE, A level and IB students.

Wanting to support the Worcester Road School ex-student Matthew Taylor responded to the Foundation Telephone Campaign in 2012, and provided funding for a new observatory for the school and astronomy equipment.

He attended the school between 1968 and 1973, during which he was secretary of the astronomical society.

The new year nine pupils will be the first to test out the observatory which is housed on the Preparatory school site in Old Station Road.

Students will now be able to take part in astronomy projects at any time of the day or night.
