STAFF and pupils at Holywell Primary and Nursery School in Rubery are celebrating after receiving the Green Flag Award in recognition of their ongoing efforts to preserve the environment.
The school's eco committee, made up of pupils from years one to six have worked together to raise environmental awareness across the school.
Teacher and eco coordinator, Rachel Moss said “We are extremely proud of our children’s growing environmental awareness and hope to build on our successes next year.”
During the past school year over 60 sunflowers were planted and an allotment to promote outdoor learning has been set up.
The school took part in various initiatives such as Switch It Off Week and Waste Week which both aim to promote a greener lifestyle.
Eco-themed topics have been put into the school’s curriculum with subjects which focus on the great outdoors and planting being covered.
