TWO brothers who armed themselves with "potentially lethal weapons" and attacked three men at a Bromsgrove party have been jailed.

Lee Binks carried out a revenge attack with the help of his younger brother Allan after he had been asked to leave the party in a flat near his home in Austin Road at about 3am on December 23 last year, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Earlier the night before, Lee Binks had been with others drinking at the flat occupied by Adam Burman and gone on to a nightclub. The staff had asked him to go and he went back to the flat at about 3am and waited for the three men and two women to return, Michael Conry, prosecuting, told the court.

There was a bout of sparring with boxing gloves and the others thought the 29-year-old was being aggressive. They took him outside and he went and woke up his brother Allan, of Spencer Walk, Catshill, before they both went back to the party.

Allan Binks, aged 28, had armed himself with a claw hammer and Lee Binks had a metal bar, Mr Conry said. They broke the window of the front door and forced their way in to attack Mr Burman, Christopher MacDonald and Adam Chinn.

Allan was heard to say, "is that him, bro?" and then he hit Mr MacDonald in the face with the hammer.

Mr Chinn and Mr MacDonald were also hit with the weapons and all three suffered cuts to their faces and heads which needed treatment. Some left permanent scarring, Mr Conry said, but the injuries were fortunately not as serious as they could have been.

Diljit Bachada for Allan Binks, said he had been woken up by his brother and now realises he should not have gone along with him but should have kept him out of trouble.

Gerald Bermingham for Lee Binks, said he looked after his mother and had proved he was capable of working hard and planned to spend his time in prison taking courses.

Both had previous convictions for violent offences.

Judge Robert Juckes, QC, said Lee Binks had involved his younger brother after his pride had been hurt and they armed themselves with "potentially lethal weapons" which often caused people to lose their lives from single blows.

"I don't know what caused you to set about these three unfortunate men," he told them. "There must be a violent streak in you."

Both men pleaded guilty to one charge of wounding with intent and two of wounding. Lee Binks was jailed for a total of seven-and-a-half years and Allan Binks for a total of six-and-a-half years.
