A DIY store in Bromsgrove is giving townsfolk a last chance to take part in a scheme helping kick start careers in interior design.

The new Homebase store opened at the recently launched Brook Retail Park, off Sherwood Road, in April.

Homebase run an Interior Design and Decorating Academy - a programme offering people aged 16 and above qualifications and experience focused on interior design and decorating.

Students work from the Bromsgrove store's design hub, and will be able to gain experience of helping customers decorate and redesign the look and feel of any room in their home.

Successful applicants will study towards a City & Guilds accredited qualification in interior design and decorating, receive visual merchandising training and experience, as well as customer service training from the Institute of Customer Service.

John Shaw, Homebase HR director said: “As one of the UK’s leading home enhancement retailers, we are committed to championing our industry as a great career choice – and we’re delighted to be able to offer young people a step on the career ladder."

Successful applicants must have a passion for interior design, but don’t need to have a lot of experience. Throughout the scheme students will receive their own personal set of decorating tools.

The application deadline has been extended until Sunday, August 10.
