RUBERY youngsters will be able to enjoy an afternoon of fun activities at their village park next month.

Among the activities will be giant games of Jenga and Connect4, a football tournament, music, arts and crafts and circus skills.

There will also be a free barbecue, while young people will be filming scenes for a special film about being young in the district with the help of artist and youth worker Daniel Newell.

The event is being held at St Chad's Park, in New Road, on Sunday, September 7.

It has been organised by Very Important Positive Activities (VIPA) and is designed especially for young people, aged 13 to 19-years-old, to stay active in their local parks and open spaces.

VIPA events are organised by Bromsgrove District Council using Positive Activities funding from Worcestershire County Council and have already included other barbecues and football coaching evenings across Rubery, Catshill, Alvechurch and Bromsgrove.

Councillor Michael Webb, portfolio holder responsible for leisure, said: “A similar event was held in Sanders Park in June and it was a resounding success.

“Not only does it get youngsters out of the house so they can meet new people, they can try different things in our district’s beautiful parks.”

The event runs from 4pm to 7.30pm.
