A £1 MILLION project to replace ageing water pipes in Belbroughton is underway.

Severn Trent Water is laying out the new pipes in a bid to stop the number of leaks and bursts in the area, which has risen in recent years.

The work, being carried out by Severn Trent’s contractors Amey, is due to be completed in May next year.

Jonathan Tait, programme manager for Severn Trent Water, explained: “The water pipes in and around Belbroughton have been serving the community for many years, but recently we’ve experienced more problems with bursts and leaks.

“We want to prevent this and make sure our customers continue to receive a great service from us now and in the future. That’s why we’re investing so heavily in Belbroughton and throughout Worcestershire as a whole.

“We’ve just finished work in Hartle Lane and we’re now in Woodgate Way for two weeks before moving back into Hartle Lane to continue laying the water pipe to the junction with Galtons Lane.

“I appreciate that the work may cause some disruption and I’m really sorry about this. I can assure our customers that we’ll keep them updated throughout and as the work progresses in to other areas.”

Severn Trent’s work will continue in Kings Meadow and Church Avenue in December, before moving onto Bromsgrove Road, Summerfield Road, The Glebe, Hartle Lane, between junctions with Woodhouse Orchard and High Street, Woodhouse Orchard, High Street and Stourbridge Road in 2015.
