FIREWORKS are set to light up Catshill at a bonfire event taking advantage of new village facilities.

The fireworks display is being held at the meadow, officially known as the George Wagstaff Memorial Meadow in Meadow Road, this Saturday, November 1.

Organisers are expecting a large attendance, and those attending will able to benefit from a new multi-functional facility.

The new facility has replaced old changing rooms, which did not have reliable hot running water.

The pod-based facility comprises a comfortable, modern changing area and a toilet suitable for people with disabilities.

There is also a catering area and storage space.

It has been used by the local footballers and scouts, who have given positive feedback.

Funding for the work, which was led by the Meadow’s Charity, The North West Ward Association (NWWA), came from Sport England, the Veolia Environmental Trust, the Landfill Communities Fund, West Mercia Police and Worcestershire County Council.

Chairman of the North West Ward Association, Ian Prust, said: "The new building has been extremely popular since it opened and this Saturday’s event will be an excellent example of how it will benefit the whole community for years to come.”

The executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, added: “It is great to hear that the new building is being used and enjoyed by people living in and near the village.”

Gates open at 6pm, with the bonfire being lit at 6.30pm and the fireworks starting at 7.15pm.

Tickets cost £2 for adults, £1 for children, while under fives go free.

There is free parking at Catshill Middle School.
