IT has been announced Bromsgrove-born actor Mark Williams will be switching on the town's Christmas lights this Saturday, (November 22).

The event, being held in the town's High Street outside Argos, starts at 3.30pm with the Harry Potter and Fast Show star turning the lights on at 5.30pm.

Bromsgrove's event is being hosted by Malcolm Boyden from BBC Hereford and Worcester and Bromsgrove civic head Councillor John Ruck will be switching on the lights with the former North Bromsgrove High School pupil.

After the switch on, a procession will lead to St John’s Church, off Kidderminster Road, which will include crafts, exhibits, an evening tower climb and scary walks.

Entertainment will be provided by local singers, the Chadsgrove School Choir and the Rock Choir, while Father Christmas will also be making an appearance.

Councillor Mark Bullivant, whose portfolio covers leisure, said: “The Christmas lights switch on events are always very popular and provides good old fashioned family fun to get you into the Christmas spirit.

"Come on down and join in the fun and celebrations.”

In a separate ceremony Primrose Hospice Lights of Love Christmas trees will also be turned on.

The hospice's Bromsgrove tree will be switched on outside ASDA at 5pm.
