AN Oscar winning sound editor has visited the Bromsgrove campus of a county college.

Norman Wanstall visited Heart of Worcestershire College's Bromsgrove campus to talk to students about his life's work, how a film is made and the vital roles in the industry.

Norman spoke at the Slideslow Drive-based campus about how he started in the industry working on the first five Bond films; Dr No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and Never Say Never Again.

He was awarded the Oscar for best special effects and sound for his work on Goldfinger - the first ever artist to win an academy award for work on a James Bond film.

During the talk Norman also praised the college’s students and offered advice to those who were looking to pursue a career in the industry.

“The most important thing about getting into the film industry is getting started," he said.

"Whether it’s TV, film or documentaries they all require the same skills that are being taught on the college’s media production courses.

"The film industry is an exciting world full of ordinary people and I’m thrilled that so many of you have come to the college to pursue the arts and with hard work and dedication you can achieve your dreams.”

Paul Joyner, curriculum, resource and quality manager of creative arts, said: “To be in the presence of such an industry legend was simply an honour.

"Along with his unprecedented knowledge and experience, Norman captured the whole auditorium, inspiring and engaging learners.

"The sheer volume of interest from students and staff in the college was something we have never witnessed before – the copious amount of selfies with Norman and his OSCAR was quite extraordinary.”
