A BROMSGROVE man who attacked a former acquaintance as he scrubbed the floor of his flat has been jailed for four years.

The victim Trevor Kendall, who lived in a flat next to a Chinese takeaway in Bromsgrove, was on his knees when he was punched and kicked, Worcester Crown Court was told.

Andrew Kings grabbed a coffee table and brought it down on his head.

Kings, 43, of Golden Cross Lane, Catshill, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding. Mr Kendall was left bleeding on the floor and later had a head wound stitched and glued.

Kings did not turn up for his initial trial at Hereford. He was later arrested and entered a guilty plea to the wounding charge.

The court was told that Kings had several convictions for violence but Nigel Stelling, mitigating, said there had been a downturn in offending in recent years.

Judge Robert Juckes QC said the attack carried out by Kings was persistent and prolonged. It was fortunate that the injuries were not more serious but they may well have long-term effects.

He said that Kings may be freed after serving two years. He ordered him to pay £120 victim impact surcharge.
