HUNDREDS attended a successful jobs fair held in Bromsgrove, organised by the town's MP.

Sajid Javid hosted the event at the Spadesbourne Suite of Bromsgrove Council House on Friday, (February 13).

The MP opened the doors with the help of civic head, Councillor John Ruck, to hundreds taking advantage of the event to go job hunting.

More that 30 employers were recruiting on the day, with thousands of jobs on offer.

As well as employers, there were tips offered by the CV Clinic and short talks about the recruitment process. Managing director of local recruiter Harris Brushes, Gary Jordon, provided a seminar on employability skills.

He said: "We’re often recruiting locally so when Sajid suggested a jobs fair we thought it was a great idea to put together employers and people looking for work all in one place for virtually no cost at all.

"On the day there were far more people than we expected so we have plenty of applications to sift through."

In the afternoon, representatives from HSBC led a second seminar providing job searchers with tips on the recruitment process.

Supported by the team at Bromsgrove Job Centre Plus, the fair was open to the public and included guests from local schools and Heart of Worcestershire College.

Among the employers represented on the day will be Harris Brushes, Jaguar Land Rover, Severn Trent Water, Aldi, Tesco, National Grid, RAF, Bromsgrove School and Thomas Horton LLP Solicitors.

Mr Javid said he set up the fair to help the one per cent of Bromsgrove people currently unemployed to get back onto their feet.

"I am pleased that the fair was able to help so many people on their way to finding a job," he said.

"From school students to over-50s, it was brilliant to see employers and Bromsgrove residents engaging.

"Every employer there had jobs on offer and I have been delighted by the positive feedback I’ve received from both recruiters and residents."
