THE brother-in-law of a Bromsgrove woman battling cancer has volunteered to step in after she forced to cancel a skydive jump.

Gill Potter has been battling breast cancer since 2012, so decided that in 2015 she would do something out of her comfort zone.

She signed up to do the jump raising money for the Primrose Hospice, the St Godwald's Road-based charity that supports people facing an end of life situation and their families during this difficult time.

Gill said: "I have been so impressed with the work that Primrose Hospice do and the support that they have given me and others that I wanted to give something back and I thought I would challenge myself."

Unfortunately Gill’s excitement was short-lived, as her oncologist recommended she should not take part, due to her weakened sternum bone.

She said: "When I was told that I shouldn’t do the jump I was really upset. I felt like I was letting down the lovely people who had supported me."

However, after hearing the news, Gill's brother-in-law, Tony Vine, has decided to step in and volunteer to do the daredevil dive on her behalf.

"I lost my brother to cancer 12 months ago so it's a cause very close to my heart," he said.

"I have always wanted to do a skydive - I really cannot wait."

Both Gill and Tony have been overwhelmed with generous donations received towards the jump from family and friends, which has led to beating her original sponsorship target of £500.

The Ryland Centre, LG Harris and Alan R Prince Flowers have also made a donation to the fundraising and, so far, £2,000 has been raised.
