CLASSICAL music lovers are being invited to a music project which is opening its new season in March.

The Orchestra of St John its opening its fourth season on Saturday, March 7, with a performance of Handel's Messiah.

The oratorio is considered by many to be one of the most popular choral works ever written.

The orchestra will be joined by the Chorus of St John, made up of the St John's Church Choir and singers from other choirs including the Barnt Green Choral Society, Bromsgrove Choral Society, the CBSO Chorus, the City of Birmingham Choir, Colla Voce and London Symphony Chorus.

The performance is being directed by Richard Jenkinson, with four soloists Claire Prewer, Lara Bienkowska, Gwilym Bowen and Mark Ashmore performing.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and is being held at St John's Church, in Kidderminster Road.

Tickets cost £10 for adults, with refreshment included in the ticket price.
