A MAN who died following a collision on the M5 last week, has been named as Bromsgrove resident Maurice Howard Tropman.

Mr Tropman, who was 83, and an elderly woman who is yet to be identified, both died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision on the M5 motorway between Worcester and Droitwich.

The collision occurred on Tuesday, February 17 at approximately 4.50pm on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junction six and junction five, when a West Midlands Ambulance Patient Transport Service (PTS) minibus was in collision with two cars.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and Mr Tropman who was from Charford in Bromsgrove, and a 90-year-old woman were both taken to Worcester Royal Hospital in a critical condition.

Speaking at the time, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find one of its Patient Transport Service vehicles and two cars that had been in a serious collision.

“The two patients who were travelling in the PTS minibus at the time of the crash suffered serious injuries, and the man driving the vehicle suffered minor injuries. All three received emergency treatment at the scene and were transferred to Worcester Royal Hospital for further treatment.

“Three further people who were travelling in the cars were also treated for minor injuries at the scene by paramedics and were transferred to the Alexandra Hospital for further treatment.

“The Trust will co-operate fully with the police investigation into the circumstances of the crash to find out exactly what happened.”

Mr Tropman, who had worked as a builder and carpenter, passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning at Worcester Royal Hospital, with his friends and family by his side.

The 90-year-old woman passed away in Worcester Royal Hospital late on Friday night.

The two were both travelling in the PTS minibus, which is believed to have been heading toward Bromsgrove, but they were not related to one another.

A member of Mr Tropman's family said: "It has left us devastated."

Five other people involved in the collision were also taken to hospital, including the driver of the ambulance who was suffering from neck injuries.

He has since been discharged and will be spoken to by police as part of the investigation into the collision.

The investigation is being led by the Central Motorway Police Group.

Sergeant Gavin Green from investigation, said: “This is a tragedy for all concerned. Our thoughts remain with the man and woman’s family and friends who are being supported by specialist police officers at this time.

“We need the public’s assistance to help us piece together what happened to provide the family with answers to their questions. We are keen to hear from witnesses that may have seen the lead up to incident.

“ I would also like to thank the public for their understanding and patience whilst we conducted an investigation at the scene.”
