MEN in Redditch and Bromsgrove are being told to be wary of the most common form of cancer.

March is prostate cancer awareness month and Macmillan Cancer Support’s mobile service is stopping off to help raise awareness about the signs and symptoms to look out for.

The team will provide free, confidential, support to anyone with a concern or a question relating to cancer when they arrive in Redditch on Thursday, March 26 at Market Place, from 10am to 4pm.

The bus will then travel to Bromsgrove High Street (outside Lloyds Bank) on Thursday, March 27 from 10am to 4pm.

Prostate cancer is the most common cause of cancer in men with 119 men diagnosed every day in the UK.

Since 2010 the number of people living with cancer has grown from 2 million to 2.5 million, and the number of men living with prostate cancer has increased by 27 per cent to 330,000 men in the UK.

Sarah Beaven, from Macmillan, said: “We want to encourage men to talk to someone if they have any concerns, men often put off going to the doctor maybe because they don't want to make a fuss or don’t want to take time off work.

"Sometimes though it’s a case of ignoring any potential symptoms with the hope they'll go away. The key to the best outcome is early diagnosis and treatment so would urge anyone exhibiting symptoms of cancer to go and get checked by their doctor."

She added: “We are here for anyone who has any questions or worries about any aspect and type of cancer, whether it’s about you, a relative or friend, come on board the bus and talk to us. More than 340,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every year, we know that cancer can be the loneliest place and we want to help ensure that no one has to face it alone.”
