A BROMSGROVE council committee is to make a decision on a possible boundary change in Hagley and Clent.

In June the Advertiser reported that Hagley Residents Action Group (HRAG) petitioned more than 400 households in west Hagley that are currently represented by Clent Parish Council, with a view that local governance is transferred to Hagley Parish Council.

Hagley Parish Council submitted a petition for a community governance review which followed legal requirements by including signatures by the requisite number of local government electors, a map clearly defining the area to which the review is related to and the specific recommendations stating what they wished the review would consider.

At a Bromsgrove District Council full council meeting in September it was decided to give the go-ahead to the review, the results of which will now go before the authority's electoral matters committee on Thursday, March 26.

Among the options to be decided by the committee is whether to amalgamate Hagley and Clent parish councils, make no changes or transfer certain areas from the Clent to Hagley parish council area.

A ballot was taken and 1,315 valid votes were cast by eligible voters, on a turnout of 42.5 per cent.

The majority, 992 votes or 75.4 per cent, was for the option of areas being transferred between parish councils.

Peter Rowbottom, from Hagley Residents Action Group which raised the petition that triggered the boundary review, said: "The result of the public vote amongst Hagley and Clent parishioners was overwhelmingly in favour of a change."

He added that, taking into account household votes and the additional votes in some households, 84 per cent had voted for some kind of a change which showed "how strongly local people feel about this issue".

The item is on the committee's agenda for the meeting, being held from 5pm.
