Spring is in the air and registration is now open for St Basils Walk 2015.

This is a sponsored team challenge for those that enjoy a good walk on varied terrain and want to support a local cause by raising funds to help homeless young people.

St Basils is the West Midlands' largest youth homelessness charity housing over 400 young people per night and helping 4,000 per year through its range of prevention and support services across the region which includes supported accommodation schemes in Bromsgrove and Redditch.

This year’s walk challenge, sponsored by Mondel?z International, will take place around the Roaches near Leek, on the south edge of the Peak District on June 6. It is an area that was featured in the BBC's 90s production of Pride and Prejudice. “The Roaches” is known for its unusual giant rock formations, stunning panoramic views in every direction and the odd wild wallaby!

This is St Basils 17th annual walk. For the last five years, more than 100 teams and over 600 people have taken part in this event annually with many of the same companies and teams coming back year on year to take on a new challenge. While following the same format each walk is held in a different location and as the routes are circular there is always something new and different to see around every bend.

There are two circular routes on offer which are 13 miles or 26 miles. Each team has to navigate the route using a booklet of photos with instructions and a map. There are six marshalled checkpoints well stocked with water provided by Pret a Manger and energy boosting treats donated by sponsors Mondel?z International.

A spokesman said: "The aim of this sponsored challenge is to raise vital funds to support our work to prevent youth homelessness therefore as well as the team registration fee participants are asked to get as many friends as possible to sponsor them."
