A BROMSGROVE convenience store has been named the UK's best in prestigious national awards.

The Costcutter store, in Stourbridge Road, claimed the prize for the UK's Best Small Convenience Store at the 2015 Convenience Retail Awards.

The family owned store is run by Chaz Chahal and fought off tough competition from stores across the UK to win the award that was organised by Convenience Store and The Grocer.

Judges were impressed by the store’s many community commitments, which included 'thank you deals' – special price promotions that thank townsfolk for their loyalty.

Chaz said: “The successful running of the store is down to good team work and I would like to pay tribute to my staff’s role in achieving this award.

"Members of staff are all local and have good input into the way we run the store - with high standards and memorable service, impressing both our customers and the judges in the awards.”

The store also plays an active role in the Bromsgrove community supporting Sidemoor First School by sponsoring the sports kit, and donating ingredients for use in baking lessons at the nearby school to help raise funds.

Following the store's support Chaz is now a governor at the school, supporting its finance committee.

As well as the major prize the store also won the Best Use of Technology specialist category after the introduction of electronic point of sales into the store.
