PATRIOTIC traders in Rubery again took part in the village's St George's Day celebrations.

Rubery St George's Society was formed in 2013 to help organise the village's celebration of St George’s Day, on April 23.

The main aim of the society is to encourage the celebration of the patron saint, and increase the knowledge of his story and background.

Rubery traders took part in a window dressing competition with local schools providing paintings to be displayed.

In the village, 14 shops took part with the prize for first place going to Farm Animal and Bird Sanctuary with runners up Poplar Carpets, Polly Put the Kettle On, Scissor Stitch and commendations to Special Times and Behan Brothers.

Dave Morris, from the society, said: "The week’s celebrations continued with a St George’s Day afternoon tea at the Beacon Church Centre and with a dinner and cabaret at Kings Norton Golf Club."
