BROMSGROVE District councillors have given the green light to new play equipment at a Hagley park.

Hagley playing fields in Worcester Road already features football pitches, a children's play area, and a grassed area.

At the authority's latest planning meeting, held on April 20, a scheme was proposed for teenage play equipment consisting of a skatepark, double cableway and tripod swing.

As the applicant was Bromsgrove District Council, the scheme went before the planning committee.

Councillor Mark Bullivant, who is also the portfolio holder for environmental and leisure services, said he was fully supportive of the proposal adding he was in favour of any development for youth.

Councillor Christine McDonald said it was good to see the council doing what it should be doing, providing for youth, while Councillor Caroline Spencer said she supported the scheme as it was providing facilities for older children which she described as essential.

There was a unanimous vote to approve the application, subject to conditions including that work on the scheme must begin within three years, and it had to follow the approved plans.
