A SPECIAL walking relay event through Bromsgrove held as part of action on stroke month proved to be a success.

The Stroke Association, which has its national headquarters - the Life After Stroke Centre - in Church Road, organised a giant purple relay on Thursday, April 30.

Townsfolk who took part wore something purple to take part in the relay, and joined up with members of the local stroke community, staff and volunteers.

The relay, which travelled from the Church Lane-based centre to Bromsgrove High Street, was organised as part of the charity's Action on Stroke month, which is an action-packed month that sees fundraisers having fun, going purple and raising money to conquer stroke.

Johanne Hughes, Life after Stroke Centre co-ordinator, said: "In action on stroke month, communities are being encouraged to come together for a range of events and activities throughout May to help us to conquer stroke.

"At the Life after Stroke Centre we wanted to make sure as many people as possible know the signs of a stroke, and know how to act fast to save a life."
