BRAVE brainiacs from Bromsgrove faced the ultimate test of their knowledge as they attempted to beat the formidable television quiz show team the Eggheads.

Bromsgrove residents John Darby, Tony Kelly, Anita Hancock and James Melough, were joined by reserve Terri McClimon and Alison Franks, when they took part in the popular weekday programme which is being broadcast tomorrow evening, (May 27).

The team challenged the Eggheads - five highly regarded quiz and game show champions - under the name of the Baked Bean Tin, which the team's captain John said is explained on the show.

John runs monthly quizzes at Aston Fields Social Club, where all the team members who appeared on the show regularly compete.

John said the producers contacted him "out of the blue" about taking part and then they went through a tough auditioning process, which included all team members being asked 10 quiz questions over the phone.

He said taking part was one of the best experiences of his life but John remains tight-lipped on how the team fared in the show, which was filmed earlier this year.

He added the Eggheads had a reputation for being stern and mean, but they were in fact really nice off-screen and played up to being panto villains during filming of the show, which is hosted by Jeremy Vine.

The team appear on tomorrow night's edition that is being shown on BBC 2 at 6pm. The programme will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer afterwards.
