A BROMSGROVE-based hospice has been recognising the contribution of its hundreds of vital volunteers.

The Primrose Hospice supports people facing an end of life situation and their families during this difficult time.

The hospice, based in St Godwald's Road, has more than 400 volunteers.

It has to raise more than £1.6 million annually, but says without their work that figure would be much higher.

The volunteers carry out a number of roles inclding day hospice help, receptionists, complimentary therapists, cooks, gardeners, patients drivers, family support workers and administrative support.

The volunteers role is being recognised as part of national Volunteers Week, which also encourages others to volunteer.

Justin Davis Smith, from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations said: "Volunteers’ Week is the perfect opportunity to recognise volunteers who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to helping others.

“Volunteering is a way to give something back. It is also an opportunity for volunteers to benefit from new experiences, make friends, gain skills and have fun."

Anyone interested in volunteering at the hospice can do so by calling Jo Merrett, volunteers manager on 01527 871051.
