A BROMSGROVE woman has been given the chance to view a garden she originally created that is now open to the public as part of a charity initiative.

Evelyn Warren, and her late husband, built the Pikes Pool Lane house that Ruth Edwards now lives in.

As part of the house, Evelyn designed and planted the gardens, tending them for many years.

Ruth took the time to track down Evelyn, who is now a resident at St John’s Court care home, inviting her to visit her old house again and see the garden she initially put some much effort in to create.

Laura Wilkes, St John's Court's manager, said: "Evelyn was overjoyed to be invited and was supported to do this by Heather Mitchell – the activity organiser at St John’s Court.

"Although Evelyn’s sight is now very poor it was evident that she recognised the area on her journey to the house, the surrounding houses and most of former home and garden."

Ruth has kept many items within the garden which Evelyn and her husband had such as the potting shed, the large shed which Evelyn’s husband kept birds in, her old mangle and lawn mower.

The garden is now called Appletreewick, and is part of the National Gardens Scheme - the scheme thay opens popular and interesting gardens nationally, to raise money for charity.

While at the house Evelyn signed the visitors book, commenting how wonderful the visit had been.
